You might be familiar with the Tascam iM2, a friendly priced portable recorder for iPhone and iPad. For this autumn Tascam has announced the release of 2 new recording solutions that connect to your iDevice, the iM2X and the iXJ2.

iM2X

Tascam im2xThe iM2X seems like the logical successor to the iM2 microphone. It’s a stereo condenser microphone that easily connects to and draws power from your dock connection. With the XY orientation of the mic heads and a possibility to swivel the device you can capture every sound around your iPhone or iPad in a 44.1kHz/16-bit quality.

iXJ2

Tascam iXJ2The iXJ2 is a multi-purpose preamp for connecting any microphone or line-in instrument to your iDevice. This preamp has 2 stereo inputs for a single / dual mono or stereo recording depending on how you set the input selection switch (A/B/STEREO). You can define the input levels with 2 rotary controls using the input level leds as a guideline. The internal A/D converter converts your signal to a 44.1kHz/16-bit recording.

Both devices have a way of powering your iPhone or iPad with a dedicated USB connector. The iM2X and iXJ2 work best when used with the special Tascam recording app, but hopefully they’ll also function flawlessly with apps like Garageband and Auria.
