The BeatStep is a new pad controller / sequencer from Arturia that somehow reminds me of my beloved OP-1, footprint-wise.
With its 16 back-lit pads you can either lay down a dynamic drum performance or switch to sequencer mode and enable / disable each pad in a 16-step sequence. You can then use the 16 available encoders for controlling the pitch of each individual pad.
Outside of the sequence mode the encoders can serve a variety of functions all tailored to realtime performance changes. You can store and recall up to 16 sequence patterns.
For connectivity there are MIDI, USB, and CV/GATE options, allowing you to control everything from hardware to your iOS devices (through the CCK).
Release date is yet to be announced, the BeatStep will go for around $129 which includes a presupplied Kensington Lock as well.
